Call it an "Idiot's Guide" for the less ambitious. Or "For Dummies" for the short of patience.
The new "Learn Just Enough" book series takes the model for these massively successful "how-to" book series and turns it on its head. Instead of an entire book giving you the "learning 101" treatment on a given subject, "Just Enough" covers a different topic in each chapter.
It's first title: "Learn Just Enough ... to Get Laid," a nod to those immortal words of the renowned philospher Napoleon Dynamite, "Girls like guys with skills."
Think guitar playing. Magic. French. Cooking. Wine. It's worth noting that authors Tyler DeAngelo and Brad Emmett - creative directors at New York based ad agency Devito Verdi - shy away from sharp tongued satire and Charlie Sheen-inspired mysogneny. Instead, they get the lighthearted lowdown from experts and then condense each subject into just enough to turn your average loath into Lothario, as the book jacket reads, "in minutes instead of months."
If the concept weren't brilliant enough, the book features QR codes that readers can use to activate video how-to's and demonstrations on each topic, as well as anecdotes and commentary from an army of "teachers assistants." Here's what you see if you scan the QR code above:
Overall, the vides are highly useful and sometimes hilarious. I went to the authors to find out more about this inventive approach to presenting their content.
