I'm back from vacation with a conversation with Mat Ranauro, founder and CEO of Meeps.
Meeps - in beta - sounds kind of cool: A new breed of social network where you connect with others based not on the person (who you are, who they are) but on spontaneous conversations about a given topic (the stock market, "Jersey Shore," the TED Conference, whatever).
This is no small matter. As Ranauro puts it, Facebook and Twitter help us present idealized versions of ourselves - that perfect photo or post that casts us as happy, engaging, inspiring - in hopes of growing our Likes or Followers.
With Meeps, the main point is the topic of conversation - what you're doing, what you're interested in - instead of just who you are.
I went to Renauro to get the full scoop on what Meeps means to members - and marketers hoping to connect with them based on real-time psychographics instead of (just) demographics.
