Volkswagen: Fanwagen - A Car Fueled by Facebook (Video)


Now for the ultimate in consumer-influenced car design.

Growing up, I think our family owned every form of VW there was at some point - several Bugs, and a couple of camper vans before a Jetta started turning us off the brand. Our big idea of customization was whatever we packed in the camper van fridge, and being social meant flipping off other drivers for the fun of it.

Now, Volkswagen in the Netherlands has launched a campaign from Dutch agency Achtung where Facebook users vote on their all-time favorite VW model.

At stake: The chance to win that car, which is also fashioned into an official "Fanwagen" because it comes fully-equipped with social media goodies, including the ability to print your newsfeed from the dashboard and a license plate that shows your relationship status.

Oh, I think my siblings and I could have come up with much more fun things to share via license plate.

But for today's Facebook obsessed, this might just drive enough fandemonium to go around.
